Time To Improve Your Health…..The Nutritional Value Of Vinegar

Sunday 9 August 2009 @ 8:17 pm

Vinegar like most foods contains a wide variety of nutrients. Most of which are in small concentrations. This provides a nice balance. Of course you dont take vinegar to be well nourished. Hopefully by consuming adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables, meats and grains will do that. And no… Tomato ketchup is not one of the 5 main food groups.

Stop the rust.
Beta-carotene is in quite good amounts in vinegar. This is an important anti oxidant which basically prevents you from rusting on the insides. Beta Carotene is also a pre cursor to vitamin A. Think health for your lungs, immune system and all mucus membranes and that sums up beta carotene. This valuable nutrient is always included in the nutritional care of breast cancer.

Get your nervous system going.
The main nutrient of interest in vinegar is potassium. If you place your hand on a hot stove you will quickly receive a message in your brain which interprets the signal. Your brain then registers the fact that placing your hand on a hot stove is a really bad idea and fires a message back, and in a flash you withdraw your hand.

We dont even have time to think how this process works, and usually we dont need to know, just as long as we get the message. From the moment you place your hand on the stove a pump system starts working. Its an exchange system of sodium and potassium. This pump relays the signal through your nerves.

It works from every nerve in your skin and muscles to your brain.

In nature where there is an imbalance between two supporting nutrients, one will take up the void left by the other. In this case low potassium will result in higher sodium levels in your nervous system and you will not respond normally.

Go you have the jitters.
If you jump at the sound of a door slamming, if you are easily startled, then chances your nervous system is need of some help. There are many things that could be done, but the first is to increase your potassium to ensure your sodium/potassium pump is working properly. Using vinegar as your potassium source is simple and cost effective.

Your medications are safe.
Many blood pressure and heart medications such as ACE inhibitors advise not to take potassium supplements because the drugs are potassium sparing on the kidneys. But your food source vinegar is perfectly safe.

Note that all other diuretics deplete your potassium, so you will certainly need your vinegar

So sodium and potassium are equally important for your normal nervous system function. Our diets readily supply us with plenty of sodium via salt, but we can become depleted of potassium. Two of the best potassium sources are apple cider vinegar and bananas.
You have heard the expression that the sum of the parts is greater than the whole, really applies to vinegar. It performs so many useful health functions, many of which cannot be explained by potassium and Beta carotene alone. Nature is a great provider. All we need to do is look.

The Ever-growing Link Between Sports and Supplements

Sunday 9 August 2009 @ 5:21 pm

Sports and supplements have grown closer and closer over the years as sports people need to push themselves further and further, closer to the limits. This training process and their fitness levels demands not only a high level of commitment and dedication but a complete lifestyle in which their diets and exercise routines completely dominate their lifestyles, how else can one expect to be at the top of their game if they are not consistently in good shape and peak physical condition?

One of the most popular products that have made quite an impression on the sports and supplements scene is that of the whey protein powder, used by body builders, weight lifters and a variety of sporting professionals and amateurs alike. The use of such supplementation is widely accepted as the whey is a naturally occurring protein and often an extremely pure form which feeds the muscles during both training and participation within their chosen sport or activity. The whey protein from a sports and supplements perspective adds value to the sports person, as the fat content is limited and therefore is a great source of protein for an athlete who demands a lot from their body.

In addition to the use of whey as a source of protein, a large amount of other products can be and are utilised by these sports people and athletes, which enhance strength and endurance, which is ideal for the sports person participating in the more extreme sports that require more effort and a longer so called exertion phase. Although the sports and supplements link vary in accordance with the actual products used, as the needs of different activities require different elements in order to maximise the athlete, or sports person concern. Creatines have been known to aid in the development of the users strength, which in turn contributes towards the fitness and endurance levels of the trainer, whilst they are pushing themselves to the limit within the training phase of their efforts.

Sports and supplements have to maintain a natural product link, as any performance enhancing products that are not naturally occurring can result in the athlete or sports person being banned from participation and hence the use of these products are mostly based upon naturally occurring proteins and other supplements that can be found occurring naturally in foods and within the human body itself. However even the use of creatine has come under the spotlight in recent times and therefore prior to implementing these products, and should the athlete be involved with sports on a professional level, then expert advice would be recommended so as to avoid any possible banning or unnecessary trouble.

Sports and supplements are really designed to remain a value added partnership in order to maximise performance, as well as the goals and objectives of the user, on a natural product basis.

Sports and Supplements serve to maximise the sports persons performance, however care should be given as to the products used. Visit Sports and supplements for a full range of products and news at http://sportandsupplements.com

The Best Ways To Combat Belly Fat

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 9:45 pm

Like all else, combating belly fat is also one of the major considerations of dieters when it comes to maintaining their weight, or when it comes to shedding off those extra pounds from their bodies. Losing belly fat is also one of the major considerations because thse fats are characterized as those types of fat that are too stubborn to get rid off easily. Moreover, belly fat is also quite unappealing to the naked eye. It ultimately defeats the aesthetics of American men and women.

For these reasons and more, dieters are considering belly fat as somethong that they should eradicate. Eradicating body fat cannot be achieved unless a person goes into dieting because as we all know, you cannot simply choose which part of your body you want to tone and get sculpted. As it is, belly fat can be warded off throgh an efficient diet program which involves the consumotion of great food choices, such as those that do not include fatty foods and foods that are laden with too much salt, sugar and monosodium glutamate or MSG.

It’s pretty understandable how and why baby fat should be eliminated but then again, do you know that there’s another reason, an undeniable reason, why people must veer away from body fats? According to a recent study, belly fats are the culprits behind many chronic diseases, particularly because these types of fats are responsible for the release of certain elements which cause the production of harmful toxins that enter the bloodstream. Accordingly, these etoxins are also the reason behind unhealthy conditions among those people who have too much fat in their bodies, particularly, belly fat.

Indeed, the studies of the researchers revealed that the amount of fat accumulated around internal abdominal organs appears to affect the likelihood of a recurrence of liver cancer following treatment.

For those people who are overweight and horrendously obese, wanting to lose weight through various weight loss aids is a given. But then again, there is another reason why we should opt for a more effective weight loss aid, and this doesn’t simply include weight loss options to gain a higher sense of self-esteem. More than anything else, weight loss for the enhancement of health and wellness is the thing that we should prioritize. But aside from these, even those people who are not overweight and obese but have too much belly fat should also opt to get rid off those fat. Otherwise, chronic disorders would be just around the corner.

Our advice for dieters is to take up a weight management regimen while making drastic lifestyle changes. Exercise, live healthy and well, and of course, maintain a diet that you can stick to for a permanent status in order to combat belly fat.

What to Do About Skyrocketing Obesity Healthcare Costs

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 8:54 pm

A large part of the GDP of the United States of America is spent on healthcare facilities. Healthcare expenditure amounts to 15.3% of the total GDP. The coming decade is predicted to be no different and the costs can rise up to 19.5%. More than deadly diseases, it is physical conditions like obesity that has increased the amount of money that an average American spends on health related problems. Of the total population of the United States, almost 25% are obese and suffer from ailments that result out of it.

Health statistics reveal that cases of obesity witnessed a steep rise of 37% from 1998-2006 that consequently raised the amount that was spent on it to a whopping $40 billion per year. The amount spent on treatment of obesity related diseases was 42% more than what was spent on the healthcare of standard weight individuals. This high rate of expenditure is on health is surely a cause of concern especially in current scenario of economic downturn.

These were not spent on fat removal surgeries like bariatric surgery but on diseases that occurred as a result of obesity. People who are overweight are likely to be diagnosed with diabetes and heart diseases. The increasing cases of obesity are thus responsible for the upward swing in healthcare costs.

You do not want your child to be troubled by obesity and other associated diseases like Type 2 Diabetes from such an early age. Therefore, it is up to the parents and the teachers to share the responsibility of developing a diet plan for the child that would incorporate all the essential nutrients and at the same time appeal to his or her taste buds. Along with the right kind of food, it is also necessary to encourage them for engaging in a lot of physical activity instead of remaining glued to the computer or the television screen.

The effort towards countering this rising expenditure should come from all quarters. To begin with, it is the duty of every parent, teacher and coach to inculcate healthy eating habits in kids. Teachers and coaches can set an example by organizing healthy fundraisers that impose restrictions on the intake of food items rich in fats, saturated fats and sugar. Chocolate fundraisers are no longer organized in most schools across the nation and thus pass on the message of opting for healthy solutions in fundraising effectively.

Now the question may arise as to what are the substitutes for fried foods and snacks which children find hard to resist. The solution to this is healthy alternatives or snacks that contain less fats and sugar thereby minimizing the chances of children becoming prone to obesity. It is difficult to restrain children from snacking, especially at the time of a school fundraiser, but when you arrange for healthy snacking options, you no longer need to restrict kids from having them. You cannot compromise with the health of your family and therefore it is better to be careful rather than repent later.

Alec Moreland promotes wellness, nutrition and healthy snacks in fundraising to reduce obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in schools. “America’s #1 Healthy Snack Fundraiser” is The Chocolate Alternative.

An Insight Into Weight Lifting Supplements

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 3:21 pm

A variety of weight lifting supplements are openly available on the market today, with the popularity of the weight lifting supplements having skyrocketed based on the fact that these have been proven in both a functional as well as clinical way. Numerous clinical and medical research activities have been conducted on these weight lifting supplements, with positive outcomes in terms of treating a variety of ailments, diseases and conditions.

Although the weight lifting supplements are known by a variety of names, they are mostly based upon protein products. This includes items such as the whey protein, casein and many more. Whey protein has become one of the most popular of the weight lifting supplements due to the benefits provided by the supplement itself, which in essence is a source of energy for the muscles enabling the weight lifter or body builder added energy and nutrition whilst working out. Interestingly though, is the fact that medical doctors actually utilise this supplement in treating patients with heart disease, and other degenerative muscle diseases, whilst using it further to feed people who are malnourished or possibly near starvation. One of the most recent developments within these types of weight lifting supplements, which of course is in line with the consumer trends, is the availability of these items in organic varieties. Therefore not only are these items naturally occurring products, but now being organically made makes it even better for the user thereof.

Beyond the protein weight lifting supplements are those of creatine, testosterone boosters, fat burners and many more. These supplements all have a different role to play within the body builder or weight lifters exercise routines and eating plans. In addition to this the weight lifting supplements have become popular amongst sports people both professional and amateur, as the use of these supplements aid in the development of the athlete or sports person’s fitness and strength levels, that are being consistently honed within the gym and on the relevant sport field.

Weight lifting supplements are often designed with the end result in mind, therefore you will encounter products that are made for quick digestion, as well as products that aim to release the benefits over a set time, such as time release supplements. In some cases the user requires immediate digestion of the supplement, whilst in other cases a more endurance like effect is required, such as the case of the tri-athlete or other endurance type sport or activity. In addition to this these supplements also contain very pure vitamins, minerals and related elements, so that the intake thereof is in line with the dietary requirements of the user.

Weight lifting supplements are not only for the body builder and trainer, but can also be used to supplement your eating plan and diet so that you can ensure the right intake of certain foods, that will enhance and maximise your training and eating plans.

Weight lifting supplements offer the tested and proven benefits of enhancing your overall health and wellbeing, and are not limited to the professional trainer. Visit Sport and Supplements at http://sportandsupplements.com for the widest variety of supplements.

Exercise: Critical Element of a Long-Term Weight-Loss Solution

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 1:34 pm

When it comes to optimizing your health and losing weight, starting an exercise program along with an improved diet that’s ideally based on your body’s unique nutritional type are the key tools you need to be successful. And, exercising over the long term will keep off those extra pounds too, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina measured the effect of exercise by dividing some 200 patients into two groups: A control group who were assigned a standard behavioral treatment amounting to 30 minutes of exercise daily or a high activity group prescribed an exercise plan (75 minutes of daily exercise) designed to burn 2,500 calories a week.

No surprise, the high activity group lost far more weight than the control group over 12 and 18 months. The interesting twist came, however, after the “official” end of the 18-month study period, when scientists evaluated the health of patients once again at the 30-month mark.

Most exercisers in the high activity group let their training slide as did the control group, resulting no differences in weight loss or activity between either group. Nevertheless, a small group of patients in the high activity group who stuck to their exercise regimen after the study’s end maintained that high weight loss and their bodies required fewer calories and less fat too.

Over the years, the reputation of exercise has grown significantly in beating a wide range of health conditions from Alzheimer’s, to colds and cancer. As the study brilliantly shows, the key is treating exercise like a drug that must be precisely prescribed to do the most good.

The average person gains just under one pound during the holiday season, and while bigger meals and rich foods are partly to blame, one of the biggest culprits is just “nibbling” throughout the day.

A new book on the market has added up the extra calories in 7,500 foods, and the author says those who are the worst at estimating how many calories they’re actually eating are the people who grab a bite here and there throughout the day. Why? When we nibble we don’t feel like we’re really eating, yet those extra calories add up.

It takes just 500 extra calories a day during the holiday season to gain about a pound, and research shows most people have not lost the extra weight by spring. Some of the worst culprits, based on calories and how long a 155-pound person would need to exercise to burn them off, include:

1. A half-pound of prime rib (230 minutes of yoga to burn off)
2. A Starbucks Caramel Macchiato (38 minutes of bicycling)
3. Burger King Whopper (173 minutes of walking)
4. A piece of fruitcake (84-minute walk)
5. Premium ice cream (72 minutes to walk off 1/2 cup)

Of course, rather than focusing on what you shouldn’t be eating, I recommend focusing on what you should: A diet based on your nutritional type will keep you from gaining weight and should help you lose weight if you need to (all by eating tasty, wholesome foods that your body needs).

The Effect of Exercise on Belly Fat

Friday 7 August 2009 @ 1:03 pm

For as long as we can remember, the fats that have accumulated around our bodies remain a significant problem that causes stress levels to rise, particularly because these layers of fat look ghastly and unappealing to the naked eye. Of late, though, several surveys revealed that more and more people are becoming conscious about their body fat not only because of its effect on an individual’s sense of aesthetics, but also because having these fats would increase their chances of becoming obese.

Before, obesity was a condition that hasn’t been creating such a fuss among the people in the American Society. But as the number of reported cases of obese individuals rose and the purported effects of this condition became prevalent, the people have thus made great efforts to ward off obesity by making some lifestyle changes. Sadly, not all people have rose up to the challenge of alleviating obesity because as we speak, there are still a lot of people who are suffering from obesity and its effects on the health and on the wellness of individuals.

According to recent studies conducted in Oklahoma in the year 2004, there are several factors that lead to rapid weight gain and obesity. Alongside these, there are also great measures that can be done in order to keep it off. Accordingly, the study revealed that even moderate exercise can conjure up a significant effect on the loss of belly fat. This is an important consideration fo dieters who opt to try weight loss methods such as dieting and ingesting weight loss supplements, but decides not to include exerines in their weight loss regimen.

Indeed, the said study also suggests that even moderate amounts of exercise can reduce the inflammation in visceral fat that has been linked with metabolic syndrome, a group of risk factors that predict heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
Getting rid of belly fat is important because this type of fat is particularly obvous and thus creates more unwanted attention for most people. But another reason to strive to take away these belly fat in the stomach is its effect on the bloodstream. Also according to the study, belly fat is the culprit behind the production of certain inflammatory molecules in the bloodstream, which, in turn, causes systematic diseases that are closely associated with metabolic syndromes.

The study went on for 6 weeks before it as declared that belly fat can indeed be gotten rid off through modest exercise routines. The study reiterates that dieting alone cannot make belly fat obsolete. So for those people who are not yet considered obese but have accumulated too much belly fat on their stomachs, this study serves as a caution for you to shape up and exercise. Otherwise, it might not be long before you will contract chronic disorders even though you are not obese.

Obesity, Simple Diet and Common Sense

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 9:30 pm

Obesity is an excess of body fat: 20% or greater than normal body weight (adjusted for age, height, frame, sex, etc.). It is stored throughout the body in the blood, arteries, liver, pancreas, intestines, skin, thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, etc. Obesity is commonly described, as a civilized disease as only a “civilized” man or woman, would abuse diet causing his or her condition to become obese. The modern American diet and lifestyle is a prime cause.

The body digests, transforms food, nutrients into blood, into structure into function, Whatever food or fluids, nutrients not digested, absorbed become waste that is temporarily stored and later eliminated. Poor food choice, combining tends to weaken digestion, metabolism causing more storage (water, fat, sugar, protein, waste, etc.) than elimination. Overeating, especially protein, fat, starch and sweets (ice cream, cookies, candy, soda, alcohol, etc.) tend to weaken digestion, metabolism and elimination while increasing weight.

Obesity according to some in modern medicine is caused by a genetically predisposed hormonal condition that causes one to overeat. These hormones according to some doctors are aggravated by poor diet, overeating, as certain foods trigger the hormones, appetite but are not corrected, negated by proper diet, elimination of the offending foods. This is total nonsense. Certain foods can trigger, feed and stimulate genetically predisposed hormones to make you overeat, but these same foods cannot be controlled, reduced to decrease appetite? Does this argument make any sense? No, it does not.

If you took thousands of obese people and sent them to China to live for a year, where they could only eat rice, cooked vegetables, smaller amounts of protein and fat (fish, chicken, beans, etc.), fruit with little or no dairy, milk, yogurt, what do you think would happen to their obesity and general health? Their obesity, excess fat would disappear while their overall health would improve. How many obese Chinese do you see versus obese Americans? You see very few.

The middle diet, meal plan adjusted accordingly is recommended. Avoid overeating and late night meals, snacking. Increase exercise, walking, especially after a meal. The downward movement of food in the small intestine (22 feet in length) increases digestion and elimination. The more you digest and eliminate, the less you store.

The mental part is more difficult. It requires mental discipline, will power to space and or skip meals, reduce nighttime eating and not stock your house with ice cream, beer, cookies, pretzels, etc. but instead dried fresh or canned fruit, bread, nut butters, etc. Just because you are hungry or have a sweet craving does not mean you have to eat, choose the worst sweet. Your body, sweet taste can be easily satisfied with an apples, oranges, pineapple, etc. Why not eat fruits and vegetables (celery, carrots) if you crave sweets or are going to overeat? Drink juice, water when you feel hungry. No one says you have to make the worst choice when craving sweets, food.

It is all about choice. At some point, you have to make up your mind to eat less, skip meals and experience the joys of hunger. The answers are always easy and the doing, more difficult but not impossible. You can do, eat whatever you want. Write down everything you do not like about overeating, and read it aloud, often, every day. How serious are you?

Thinking About Weight Loss

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 9:21 pm

As we all know, strategies are important in order to achieve success in any undertaking. However, the problem sets in when we have strategies but we don’t know how to act accordingly to these strategies because our mindsets have taken a different route. If truth be told, this is often the problem with dieters. They set goals and they are determined, especially at the beginning, to reach these goals. But when it comes to the implementation, they always come short-handed because their thoughts get in the way of their success.

We all have different and various ideas as to how we perceive food. Ultimately, these concepts and observations are the exact same thing that would spell how much of a success or a failure our dieting and weight loss pursuits would be. As the saying goes, when a dieter doesn’t change his or her viewpoints about weight loss and dieting, then his or her weight loss undertakings would only lead to a disastrous outcome. Thus, the first point that should be considered at this point is to rehash and change viewpoints about food.

Below are some ideas that we can delve into, to reshape our mindset about dieting and weight loss:

Do not let your emotions rule your appetite. More often than not, we allow our emotions to dictate what we want to eat. Worse, we let it dictate how much food we consume. This is wrong. If we continue up to this, we’d face weight gain issues repeatedly and without harnessing a way to get rid off our weight-related dilemmas. So control your food choices and limit yourselves only to what you should ingest no matter how you’re feeling.

Do not go lax on portion control sometimes, when we get difficult things done or when we simply want to reward ourselves for something we have accomplished, we tend to go lax on portion control, thinking that we deserve to be rewarded. But then again, that award is only momentary. In truth, we are punishing our systems by allowing it to have illnesses and disorders through wrong food choices and poor portion control. Exercise discipline and stick to it at all costs.

Do not follow your friends. When wrong things are done, it is almost always justifiable if you enjoy it and when you do it with friends. This same thing goes when dieting. When friends cheat in their weight loss programs together, they do so a little too often, hence, they also get in trouble with their weight loss programs.

Eating out is not a license to cheat lastly, doing not think that just because you are dining out, then you can already eat anything you like. As we previously mentioned, everything goes back to discipline. And unless you learn to instill discipline on yourself, you will not learn ho to succeed in your dieting and weight loss pursuits.

Alkalize and Energize Your Body

Thursday 6 August 2009 @ 7:35 pm

Do you feel hungry after eating a huge meal? Do you exercise daily and still not shed a pound? Do you see yourself aging before your very eyes? Are you overweight and feel tired often? The answer is quite simple - ACID overload in the body.

The food we buy in the grocery store is actually forming acid in your body. They include meat, cheese, eggs, bread, coffee, chocolate, sugar, rice, milk, cereal, cakes, cookies, pies, crackers, etc. These foods form acid in the body and over-acidification of body fluids and tissues are linked to every known disease including that dragged-out tired feeling many of us complain about, not to mention, the endless list of digestive disorders and medical problems.

When your body is overly acidic, you become vulnerable to germs, yeast, bacteria, molds and fungi which thrive in acidity. So many people live on highly processed foods, over-cooked foods which is why there are so many anti-acid commercials on TV.

What is the opposite of Acid? Alkaline! What foods are alkaline? Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, frankly everything God put on this earth for us to eat which is basically everything in the produce section. Too many people eat 80% ACID FOODS and 20% ALKALINE FOODS and it needs to be the opposite: 80% Alkaline food and 20% Acidic foods.

All you have to do is add some SUPER GREEN FOODS to your daily regimen and watch what happens. They will help you do the following:

- return to a healthy PH balance
- regulate blood sugar levels
- maximize your energy levels
- help you reach an ideal weight
- restore clear, bright eyes
- rejuvenate your skin
- improve your digestive tract

Super Green Foods include Spirulina, Barley Grass, Royal Jelly, Grape Seed Extract, Chorella, Ground Flaxseeds to name a few. You can purchase Super Green Foods at your local health food store and add them to a smoothie. Add ground flaxseeds to your salad or oatmeal. Eat more fruits and vegetables at each meal.

YOu must understand that too much acid makes the body crave salt and sugar - two culprits of weight gain, high blood pressure and diabetes. When you have too much acid in the body, blood sugar balance is impaired and your energy levels can diminish quickly. So what do you do? Reach for more of the same foods that make you more acidic and the vicious cycle never ends. When your body is dealing with acid overload, it will hold on to fat no matter how much you exercise or restrict your diet.

Super Green Foods can actually shift your body to a healthier PH balance so your body will naturally release fat and water in the shortest time possible and keep it off. Super Green Foods help the body break this acid overload cycle by flushing them out through the kidneys.

Putting alkalinity back into the body helps to neutralize daily acid production and you will find you will:
- feel better
- recover quicker from exercise or exertion of any kind
- reduce food cravings
- eat less in the process
- lose weight

This will be your first line of defense against fatigue, stubborn weight gain, illness and disease. Have you had anything “green” today?
