A Figurine Should Be Special To You Before You Add It To Your Collection

Sunday 2 August 2009 @ 9:37 pm

Figurines are only one of many things that people can collect. There are of course antiques that can cost you a lot of money to be able to have, but that does not always have to be the case. Figurines can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. They can beautiful ladies of eras gone by or they might be clowns, animals, male figures, or religious. What a collector wants to acquire all depends on what is special the individual. They might also inherit a collection of a particular style of figurines and continue it because that makes it special to them.

Even if you do not always spend a lot of money on a figurine, it can be easy to end up with some that might not represent anything very special. It is important that any time you decide to add a new item to any thing you collect that it mean something to you or you really love the way it looks. You should never buy an item just because it is cheap and it just adds one more item. Buying things that do not strike some sort of happiness, memory, or represent something sentimental will mean that you will end up with pieces that do not have special care for.

Some people go shopping expressly for adding items and sometimes you might find them in the most unlikely places. You can buy them new in a store somewhere or you might find them at flea markets or yard sales. Yard sales and flea markets are where you might find a great piece at a great price. Then again, you might try shopping auction sites on the Internet. When you buy used pieces, you should always make sure that they are in as good a condition as possible. Of course, when you buy items like figurines that are very old, there might be a chip or crack. You should only purchase these if you really, really, want it badly because the chances are that item might not be worth the investment if you are paying big money for it.

If you do like collecting older items that can sometimes be costly, do your research and always try to get as good a deal as you can. Buying new items of good quality can be expensive too, but these might increase in value over the years. Sometimes the value of an item is not important to a collector at all if it is special to them. This is what can make collecting so much fun. Buying pieces that you happy and that you are proud to display is what it is all about.

Clocks Can Give More Than Just The Time Of Day

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 11:54 pm

People can collect some of the strangest things sometimes. Everything from stamps, coins, dolls, or even larger more expensive things like cars. Some people like to collect art work of many kinds. Paintings, prints, statues or decorative glassware. Even clocks can be collected by those that like to keep the time in some special way. Today clocks are made in a variety of styles and themes so that there is at least one that will appeal to them somewhere.

Purchasing a special clock or time piece to wear does not necessarily mean that you will want to have a lot of them, only that the ones you do have are something special for you. Novelty shops might ell a clock with a tractor that would appeal to a farmer to keep in a barn. An auto mechanic might have a clock that displays a picture or is made in the shape of his favorite automobile or motorcycle. Those that love beautiful figurines might have a clock that is somehow incorporated into one of those. Animal lovers could have them incorporated into the body of some specific creature or just have the picture of one on the clock somewhere.

Keeping up with the time of day is usually always important o working people so why not make it more enjoyable to look at the clock you have displayed? Placing a fun clock in a the room of a child could encourage them to learn to tell time more quickly or giving them a watch that displays a character they love. Nautical clocks are always popular as well as those that chime on the hour. Cuckoo clocks are much loved by many just because they enjoy seeing the little bird pop out every hour on the hour.

Whether choosing a clock or time piece for yourself or someone else, make it something that will bring pleasure in other ways besides just displaying what time it is. Clocks can ad a decorative to any room in the home when the style of it goes along with the decoration in the rest of the room. Just because it is there to serve a specific purpose does not mean that it can not also be something enjoyable to look at at the same time. Clocks can come in a variety of price ranges from the really cheap and cheesy to the really expensive and antique. Tips and Tricks In Choosing Valuable Dolls

Friday 24 July 2009 @ 1:42 am

If you’re new to collecting, or looking to add more valuable pieces to an existing collection, there are a few tricks and tips that can help you find dolls that are more valuable.

The very first tip is to collect whatever american doll you love the most. That’s the one you’re going to feel the most passion about. Can you imagine the satisfaction you’re going to feel knowing that you’ve managed to score a part of your favorite doll line that is rare or especially prized?

If you’re interested in collecting Our Generation Dolls, for example, read up on what is available out there in the line. As in all areas of collectibles, there are both websites and printed publications (books like collectors’ guides, hobby magazines and doll magazines) that can give you an accurate listing of what dolls, clothing and accessories are available. Once you have figured out to look for, an official price guide can give you a ballpark idea of what each item is worth.

Your next move is to visit a doll show so that you can see examples of the line. A picture in a book is only good to an extent. You need to be able to view the item in person to see some of the finer details you can easily miss in a two-dimensional photo. Some of the dealers you find there will undoubtedly be able to offer you expert advice to help you know what to look for or what you’re looking at when you find it.

When buying any doll, try to look for ones that come in the original packaging. If the doll or accessory has never been removed, these usually command the highest prices. The value can be good if the original packaging is in good condition with little or no wear. When purchasing one of the Our Generation Dolls that is not boxed, take a good look to see what condition the doll is in (is it dirty or does it show obvious signs of wear). Also check to see what accessories come with it before you make a purchase so you are aware of what, if anything is missing.

Another benefit to attending a show is that you can get an accurate idea of the current price range for any particular item in the Our Generation Dolls line that you are looking for, both for items that come in and out of the package.

In summary:

- Collect only the doll you’re the most passionate about

- Read everything you can to become educated about your chosen line

- Consult price guides to get a ballpark idea of the price range of the doll(s) in the line you want to acquire

- Visit a doll show and actually look at as many examples as you can

- Don’t be afraid to talk to the vendors you meet — they can provide some handy expertise that you, as a collector, can benefit from

- Look for items that are more unusual like limited edition dolls, secondary characters, etc.

- Try to find dolls that are still in the original packaging as this makes the item more valuable

- When buying a doll that is out of the package, look for one that has no apparent dirt, wear, or any other flaw that could affect value

Everything You’ve Ever Wanted From Dolls can be found here:www.generationdollsblog.com. We have variety of durable, child-friendly, chemical-free, and yet affordable such as

Cleaning Your Fine Collectibles

Monday 13 July 2009 @ 3:10 am

If you are a collector of fine collectibles, then you probably have faced this dilemma: How do I keep my fine collectibles clean? Porcelain, as well as ceramic collectibles, requires special care. You don’t want to just “dunk” items you have spent a lot of time finding into soapy water in order to display them in your home or business. You need to be cautious before trying new cleaning techniques. You don’t want the items to be destroyed!

Obviously, your ceramic and porcelain items can be dusted… carefully. A lot of them are washable with the use of a mild soap and water, but again, be cautious. Be careful to first check in an inconspicuous place. You don’t want to ruin the collectible piece - one little “ruined” area is better than all of it being ruined!

Cotton swabs come in handy when testing a porcelain/ceramic collectible. Try dabbing the swab on the item using a mild soap and water solution. Be sure to find a place that is not easily seen when your item is on display. If the item passes this “spot check” then you should proceed with caution. Clean a little at a time.

Very soft, full paint brushes are an ideal way to dust hard-to-get-to areas. A lot of fine crystal collectors use ammonia-based cleaners. Beware! After using an ammonia-based cleanser, you may find that you have a cloudy residue build-up on your fine crystals. Did you know that they actually make a crystal chandelier cleaner? One thing to remember: never place your fine crystal collectibles in the dishwasher!

Of course, if you are a collector of fine items, you will know how to be very careful and take your time when cleaning them. It’s akin to spending time in the grocery store selecting the best tomatoes - after spending all that time, would you want them carelessly placed in the bottom of your shopping bag, under cans of soup?!?

Some occasions when a “specialty cleaner” will be required are when your fine collectibles are made out of different metals (silver, gold, copper, etc.) or when your fine collectibles are made of wood, paper and/or other delicate materials. Antique dolls, for example, require reputable doll specialists. Remember, there are some items that can be either damaged or made to lose their value if they have been altered during the cleaning process. Antique wooden furniture will lose its value if it is repaired during the cleaning process. And, obviously, paper items such as stamps will be worthless if they are cleaned the wrong way. The same goes for most antique collectibles.

When cleaning your fine collectibles, there is a very easy rule to follow: take your time, be careful, and pretest. And, when needed, consult a “specialty cleaner.” If you follow this very simple rule, you will be able to enjoy your fine collectibles for many years to come.

Collecting Charm Bracelets Can Be A Great Hobbies

Friday 10 July 2009 @ 3:00 pm

I’m a massive fan of collecting different types of charm bracelets. I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager when I was given my first bracelet as a birthday present. It’s something I’ll probably never forget because it started a lifetime hobby. The first bracelet was an Alice in Wonderland theme. When I first seen this I was so impressed with the craftsmanship and detail on Alice and The Mad Hatter but I simply have to somehow get the rest of the collection. As a teenager you can imagine with having no job this was going to be a very expensive hobby. At that time you could pay anywhere between $20 and $40 per charm. I’m sure you put gold more expensive but I simply could not afford even look at anything more expensive than these. It did take me a while to complete the collection of charms for the bracelets. But, I got there eventually.

Many people nowadays collect these and I guess over the years the availability of different styles and types has changed dramatically. Back in the Victorian days they were probably seen more as a symbol of status. Nowadays, they are more for action and fun. Some of the funky designs that are now available is just amazing and my collection changes almost on a weekly basis because they have also become more affordable.

My daughter was heading to a Halloween party one time. I had an idea to surprise her with a bracelet with various different types of charms to symbolize Halloween. I was able to do some quick research on the Internet and came across a website that had a really nice selection available. I think in total I chose about 15 different types from broomsticks, skeletons, trick-or-treat bags and various different types of witches. It only took a couple of days for them to arrive and the price was very reasonable compared to popping along to our local jewelry store. I guess it’s because they have less overheads and do not need to pay staff to man the store every single hour of the day.

When my daughter seemed the charm bracelet she just thought it was so funny and it matched in which her costume she was wearing on the day perfect. I guess that’s the beauty of these type of bracelets and for collectors like me to be able to pass on to our children some of the ideas they can start to see that it is not an obsession it can actually be quite fun to.

What is a Phoenix Treasure Trust Auction? Learn Today and Find Unique Items!

Thursday 25 June 2009 @ 10:38 pm

Is there an item you’ve been searching for over the years? Try looking at a treasure trust auction! This article is designed to provide you with the details on what Phoenix treasure trust auctions are and how they work. Specifics may vary from auction to auction; however, the following information includes helpful and important guidelines from which everyone can benefit.

If you’re like most people, you probably own something that has a missing piece. Perhaps it is a collectible item that will complete a rare set, or maybe a china casserole dish that was lost from your great-grandmother’s favorite set. Maybe you’re looking for something you can’t find at your local flea market, like a barley twist canopy bed frame, or a painting by an artist you wish you had purchased when you were in Paris. The list could go on and on! But, your search could become much shorter in time if you start searching at Phoenix treasure trust auctions.

What is a Phoenix treasure trust auction? Well, when someone passes on, the family is usually in charge of the disposition of the estate. Sometimes, an estate can be very large and overwhelming to those who must then figure out what to do with all of the property. Many families end up making the transition easier by holding a treasure trust auction. In other cases, an estate is being handled by an attorney or a bank, and they decide to sell off the estate in a treasure trust auction.

Auctions can include a variety of valuable items like jewelry, coins, collections, antiques, automobiles, furniture, household items and real estate. People who attend treasure trust auctions often find collectibles and other rare items that they have been searching for, and end up paying a lot less for them.

Phoenix treasure trust auctions are usually announced well in advance and a complete listing of available items will be published. In addition, on the day before the auction, there is often a time period set aside for viewing so that the bidders can inspect the items they wish to bid on.

How does a treasure trust auction work? To begin, bidders must receive bidder cards from a cashier in order to make a bid on any item. In most cases a refundable cash deposit is required to receive a card. When the auction is about to begin, the auctioneer announces the terms of the sale so all bidders are aware of their responsibilities in bidding. Once a bidder is ready to make a bid, they simply raise their hand or their bidder card and the auctioneer or ringman acknowledges the bid. The ringman assists the auctioneer in spotting bids, holding up merchandise so the bidders can see the item for bid and marking the item with the bidder’s number once it has been sold. Upon successful winning of the bid, the auctioneer tells the clerk what the bidder paid for the item and their bidder number. This information is recorded and given to the cashier who tabulates the bidder’s purchases for check out from the sale. The bidder pays by either cash or cashier’s check. In most cases, the bidder must remove their property from the treasure trust auction location immediately following the sale.

Santa Claus Collectibles - a Great Collection for Holiday Enthusiasts

Monday 15 June 2009 @ 3:24 am

Almost everybody loves that special Christmas holiday time of year. Somehow, without planning it, another amazing thing happens - we all end up with collections of items that reflect our own personal tastes and wishes for memories of past special holidays.

Oh, those Santa Claus figures! Whether made of cloth or porcelain, resin or wood, there is just something about collecting different representations of the jolly old elf. There are so many types of Santas that some folks limit their collection to a specific subgroup, like nutcrackers or porcelain figurines. Every year we decide not to get any more, our collection is large enough, and yet somehow every year we find ‘just one more’ we have to have. There are Santa lights for indoors or out, Santa driveway reflector stakes, and the beautiful Mr. and Mrs. Santa dolls dressed in velvet with snowy-white beards that move and say Ho-Ho-Ho.

Snowmen have become increasingly popular in the past twenty years or so, or at least more popular in the sense that it has become easier and easier to find snowmen and snowwomen figurines every year. The cool blues and whites of snow-people work well with or without the greens, golds, and reds of the more traditional holiday color themes.

Every year brings another wonderful selection of Santa Claus and holiday china, glasses, and linens, so much so that it is easier to decide we need to replace that old tablecloth with this new one, or need to add another piece to the ever-expanding holiday china set. Certainly the bathroom needs a new Santa soap dispenser, and the kitchen needs new towels and potholders. And then there are the candleholders and pinecone candles, which work so well with the reindeer figurines and mantle stocking holders that spell out the meanings of the season - peace on earth, joy, faith, and love. And all the different scented candles, like balsam or vanilla cookie - yum!

Tree Ornaments

What about the tree ornaments? The thematic possibilities are endless, from silver and gold with crystal icicles to Mardi Gras themed harlequin dolls with purple, green and gold bows. Want rustic North woods? Use pinecones and rust colored bells with birds and wood animals. There are sea-inspired themes, with mermaids and shells and fish and flamingos, and food-inspired themes with ice-cream cone and cheese ornaments. Even the trees themselves have changed. Some artificial trees today have artificial fiber-optic lights that rotate color and have dramatically changed the way we look at our Christmas trees. Need a tall, skinny tree with white lights for a special corner in the house? And multiple trees, or upside down trees over the dining table - there are just endless possibilities to decorate your home.

For many of us, though, there are always those few special reminders of Christmas. Whether the item is from long-ago or brand new, the feelings we get from those special reminders stay with us year after year. Nostalgia and hope for the future intermingle every year as we unpack our Santas, snowmen, special ornaments, and trees.

Using A Comic Book Program To Track your Collection

Friday 12 June 2009 @ 1:47 am

A comic book program can help you keep your collection organized, in order, and tracked easily and with little effort. Management software programs are available at very reasonable prices and there are even some that are offered for free. Free editions are the simplest and cheapest way to track collections, and they can organize collections of up to 500 books or more.

Many people enjoy their comic book program because they include current prices and data on their editions and up to 400,000 more editions as well. The built in listings enable collectors to pull up all kinds of information on a half million editions, with detailed title and issue reports, a tool for grading the condition of the books, specialized find searches, and more. A good comic book program should be easy to use, easy to navigate through, and should also handle variant issues, special comic types, multiple printings, and a lot more information as well.

ComicBase has been named as the best comic collecting software by PC Magazine, and is one of the more popular programs available. There is the option to use the free edition or collectors can upgrade to a more in depth edition as well.

Some of the software that is available even allows collectors to buy and sell their comic collections online by connecting to websites that serve as a springboard for serving. Once collectors try these free versions and decide that they like it, it is usually easy to upgrade to other versions. The program should automatically transfer all of the data from the free version to the new version so that there is no interruption and no repetitive data input involved.

Some of the favorite and most popular comic book programs also are able to note the first appearances, origins, and deaths of different characters for hundreds of different stories, and they can also manage multiple collections. Automatically being able to calculate the value of the collections, these programs can also track condition, costs, and values of books. If that wasnt enough, the software can print issue checklists, price labels, price lists, identification labels, and collection value reports as well.

Other perks that collectors enjoy with these types of software tracking programs include reports of missing issues and wish lists, the advanced built in grading wizards to help determine the condition of the issues in the collections, and some even have a barcode scanner support program that allows you to quickly find issues of any title in the softwares database. These are just some of the reasons why so many collectors value their comic book programs so much.
