If you’ve been thinking about becoming an acupuncturist as a career you’re probably wondering what kind of salary you would make and/or how much money you would make or earn if you’re self-employed.
The field of acupuncture is a great field to get into these days because it has become more readily accepted in the healing professions. More and more conventional doctors are recommending it to their patients or adding it on as an adjunctive therapy to their own practice. Of course in alternative and naturopathic clinics you’ll find many acupuncturists already practicing.
A good acupuncturist will have gone to a good or the best accredited acupuncture school and come out with a broad education. This may be a requirement if you plan to work for someone else and not open up your own practice or clinic. Even if you were to open up your own practice you would want to get hands-on experience in another clinic or practice under someone else who has the knowledge and experience to guide you.
If you get a job or work for someone else you can plan to earn anywhere from $45,000 up to $65,000 with maybe a year or so of experience. This salary amount will increase as you gain more experience and build up a clientele or patient base.
If you plan to go into your own practice or clinic then what you earn or make will depend a lot on your overhead. That is - if you’re sharing space with someone else or going it alone. Your monthly earnings or profit will depend on how much you have to give up to overhead. As an acupuncturist you can work in very little space. It doesn’t require a lot of room and you may be able to share space in an alternative health clinic or doctor’s office or clinic or there are many other possibilities.
So the money you make or earn as an acupuncturist can be very good and require little overhead if you go it on your own.
The job outlook for acupuncturists is very good because acupuncture is being accepted more and more. Visit a few clinics if you haven’t already to see the variety of work settings that you can work in. Check out a few of the accredited acupuncture schools and get an idea of what it costs to get your training. There is plenty of money available for loans - and scholarships and grants wait also.
